Our First Ultrasound
Lucas was a bit of an unexpected surprise. Clinton and I weren't trying to have a baby, but we also weren't not trying, if you get my drift.

The stomach flu was going around the daycare where I worked, and so it was only a matter of time before I was infected. However, after two weeks of constant nausea and an inability to hold down any food, a red flag began to wave itself... perhaps it wasn't the stomach flu. That night, May 5, 2010, we found out that we were expecting. As the shock began to wear off, I put myself into "mom mode" and started planning.

We began telling our immediate families on the following Sunday, which just so happened to be Mother's say. After all, who wouldn't love to receive a "Happy Grandmother's Day!" card from your kids!?

Everyone asked us, "How far along are you?", and since we hadn't had an ultrasound, I just had to estimate. After doing the math, I figured we were about six weeks along. It was our decision to share the news with the people who we felt should know, regardless of whether or not the pregnancy was true.

A couple weeks later we had out first OBGYN appointment and ultrasound. The technician was able to locate the baby with an external device almost immediately, which is very rare with early pregnancies. As she began inspecting the baby, we were informed that I was almost eleven weeks along, rather than the assumed eight. The new due date coinsided perfectly with one of the nights soon after our Robotics Team won its first FIRST Robotics competition. If this is too much information for you, you might want to stop reading here, as pregnancy is a disgusting, painful, violent, frustrating, yet rewarding experience.

The Joys of Pregnancy...

34.5 Weeks
Pregnancy has surely been an adventure for me. I had ups and downs throughout my entire 40-week-long child-bearing process, which taught me a lot about who I was, and what kind of mother I wanted to be.

While end result is surely the best thing to happen to me and Clinton, the journey to get there was less-than-enjoyable. I picked up a lot of tips and tricks along the way, and I want to help as many women as possible avoid going through what I did.
